Los Angeles Personal Injury News, Wrongful Death »
A military jet crashed into a farm in Camarillo, California – 50 miles north of Los Angeles – on Friday, killing the pilot. The pilot was a civilian who was on a training exercise with this military-contracted Hawker Hunter jet. Federal investigators could not yet determine the cause of this accident and the investigation will be handed over to Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. There was no other casualty on the ground, nor any fire.
Note the weather on Friday May 18th was sunny and clear. No abnormal weather condition or the act of God contributed to this accident. Someone must have been negligent which led to this accident. We do not yet know who was at fault but most likely it would be the pilot, manufacturer or the military for negligently maintaining the jet. Either way, it is sad the pilot had died and our Los Angeles personal injury attorney gives condolences to the family of the victim.
Upon further investigation, the family of the pilot have a potential claim against either the manufacturer or the military for wrongful death. Even if the pilot was at fault, he can recover as the accident occurred during the scope of his employment. The landowner definitely has a claim for damages against the aforementioned party for damages done to their celery farm regardless of whether it was an act of emergency.
