Bed Sores
Bed sores are generally known as skin ulcers, pressure sores, decubitus ulcers or pressure ulcers. Bedsore is a spot of dead skin caused by interruption of blood flow to the area where bones project outward toward the skin including lower back, buttocks, heels, shoulders, knees or ankles. Bedsores can be spotted when pink coloration of the skin occurs and the spot disappears after relieving pressure on the area. These sores are quite painful and invite high risks of infection and skin damages. An elder person with physical disability who is often confined to a bed or wheelchair is more prone to develop bedsores. Often bedsores occur due to neglect by nursing home. Bedsores can be prevented easily when treated with care in the beginning such as timely moving the patient’s body around and cleaning the bed and sheets often.
